gift guide // for the beauty obsessed

Beauty products are one of my favorite types of gifts to give and receive.  I'd much rather spend more on one quality product than the same amount on multiple lesser quality items.  Just my opinion, but there's something about the luxe packaging and fine ingredients that makes you feel glamourous and instantly more beautiful.  Here are some items that would make for lovely gifts for the ladies in your life.

product spotlight // argan oil

I was thrilled to find a small bottle of Josie Maran Argan Oil in the Sephora Favorites Kit I purchased recently (sold out online).  Argan oil is a rare oil and it's grown organically in Morocco.  It's packed with vitamin E, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, which contribute to its healing, conditioning, and anti-aging properties.
Before purchasing the oil, I had never used it and honestly didn't know how to.  The bottle is pretty expensive considering its little size, so I didn't want to use it incorrectly and waste any of it.  So, I did some research and thought I'd share my favorite uses with you.

Cuticle & Heel Softener // Apply a small drop to your cuticles and massage in.  Also, you can work some of the oil into your heels before bed, then wear socks all night to really allow the product time to soak in.

Facial Moisturizer // Use this in place of your normal face moisturizer.  This is a dry oil, so it's not going to make your face greasy.  If that's not enough added hydration, use it as a serum before your moisturizer.  The CEO of Blue Mercury, Marla Malcolm Beck, stated, "Argan oil can help people with mild acne as the oleic acid found in the oil helps promote healthy levels of sebum production, and its linoleic acid helps prevent excess dead skin cells by promoting healthy skin turnover."

Hair Treatment // Use this as a leave-in conditioner by applying it to damp hair.  Use it to add shine, calm frizz, and tame split ends by adding to hair that is already dry.  Argan oil helps to repair damaged hair.  This also works as a heat protectant!

Facial Treatment // Add a few drops of argan oil to a mixture of 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 3 teaspoons of greek yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of honey.  Apply this homemade face mask to your clean, dry skin and let it set for 10 minutes.  Rinse with warm water.  This will work towards brightening and rejuvenating your skin!

Glowy Makeup // If you're into a glowy foundation look, just add a drop or two to your foundation to make your skin look fresh & dewy.

Body and Bath Oil // Argan oil is great for the skin.  It will help prevent and even minimize the appearance of stretch marks.  Apply it directly to the skin or mix with your body moisturizer.  Another option is to add a few drops to your bath water.

Do you use argan oil?  Have any uses for it that I didn't list?  Do share! Xo-M

This past weekend was a blast.  We went to happy hour after work on Friday with some friends at the Bay Street Biergarten.  It is the coolest place!  If you're in Charleston and haven't checked it out, you definitely should!  A lot of the tables have their own taps, so you can pour your own drinks.  The iPad on the table keeps track of how much your pour.  Really neat concept!

On Saturday, we went to the Coastal/USC football game.  I went to Coastal Carolina for two years before transferring to the College of Charleston, so I cheered for them, but we got killed.... miserably.

I wore a Splendid Sweatshirt Dress, fleece-lined tights (necessary!), and my trusted booties from Target (on sale!).
Both of our families were there... so fun!

Happy Thanksgiving week!  Xo-M

weekly roundup

You guys - what a week!  Tuesday was a 15+ hour work day and it has just thrown me off.  I could totally go for some rest and relaxation this weekend.  Instead, we are heading to Columbia bright & early in the morning to go to the Coastal/USC football game.  Both my parents and Brandon's are going - and my brother will be joining us at the tailgate, too!  It's going to be an awesome day... and supposed to be sunny skies and in the 70s!  Really can't beat that.

I LOVE refurbishing thrift store furniture (or... that time I found a sewing table on the side of the road).  This tutorial breaks down the steps.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will air on December 10th, but I'm loving this little sneak peak.

This nightstand has all the goods... a drawer, shelves, and it's white lacquer.  Two, please!

Tried a sample of this foundation in 02 this week and it completely rocked my world.

I am so obsessed with thin, gold bands.  Here's the anatomy of a good stack.

If I were ever sued for $1 Billion, I think I'd do the same.

This gave me goose bumps - in an awesome way!

Must. Master. This.

lust list // holiday party looks

The holiday season is among us!  Christmas parties are right around the corner and I can't help but put together the perfect outfits in my head.  Here are some beautiful options.  Pair with tights and a long peacoat, sparkly jewels, and you're all set!

splurge vs. save // stuart weitzman 5050 boot

Stuart Weitzman's over the knee boot - the 5050 - is a definite icon.  It's made up of half leather (or suede) and half stretchy material (lyrcra), so it's sure to be a fit for everyone.
They've been around the block for over 20 years and have been made a classic by the tastes of celebrities galore.  Here are a few pictures of celebs (and a fashion blogger!) wearing these stylish kicks.

But... at around $600 a pair, they are definitely an investment.  Sure to last a lifetime, but a definite splurge item.  Here are a few look-a-likes that won't break the bank.

gift guide // serena & lily

May the holiday gift guides commence!  First up is Serena & Lily, mainly because they are having a great sale that ends tonight (see code HOLIDAYPREP below)!  I'm also featuring Serena & Lily because.. well, who can resist that stunning array of neutrals and textures?  I don't think anyone would check the return policy after receiving one of these gifts.

piperlime 30% off // my picks

Okay okay.  So I know this isn't exactly the time of year to be snatching up things for yourself.  Tis the season of giving, after all.  But... a sale is a sale and it's a crying shame to miss out on one this good, y'all.  Piperlime occasionally offers 20% off of your entire purchase, but very rarely can you take 30% off!  Yeah so, this is kind of major.  As promised earlier... here are my picks!

Save 30% off your entire purchase at Piperlime with code MERRY ...until tomorrow, 11/19!

weekend snaps and rambles

I never shared any pictures on here from the Avett Brothers concert Brandon and I attended on Thursday night.  I'm such a fan now!  My favorite part of the concert was when they sang "Just a Closer Walk with Thee."  It was so raw & beautiful.

I've been loving wearing my hair wavy this past week.  My hair is kind of at an awkward length where it's not short, but not long, so giving it a slight curl is my way of giving it new life.  Blah!

Isn't this watch pretty?  I spotted it while flipping through one of my two dozen magazines in my "need to read" pile.  I swear I will stop subscribing to magazines.  I just don't have the time these days.  While looking for this watch, I couldn't find this exact one, but I found one I like even more!  Isn't this one beautiful?  I'm so obsessed.

I went home this weekend to stay with my parents.  Mom and I had the best Saturday rummaging through consignment shops, walking around downtown, and grabbing lunch on the waterfront.
She treated me to this amazing lamp.
...and I treated myself to the score of the century, these Herend figurines.  I literally saved almost $550 off of retail price.  Brandon & I received Herend china for our wedding and since that time, I've heavily admired these little figurines.  Just could never justify the price.  Glad to finally have three of my own!
Books ...on books ...on books at M Home & Garden on Bay Street.

Another treat.  This amazeballs sunset.  No filter on this one, y'all.

Saturday night was filled with friends, pizza, card games, rides through the woods on a quail buggy, and tears from laughing so hard.  Brandon and I spent Sunday with my parents.  We enjoyed church, brunch, & lazy afternoon naps.  It really was a great weekend back "home."  Hard to top!

P.S.  Piperlime is allowing you to save 30% off your entire purchase with code MERRY by 11/19.  I'll be posting my picks later this afternoon.

lust list // bloomingdales friends + fam

Another friends & family sale is going on now until November 17th.  Save 20% at Bloomingdales with code BFAM.  Here are my picks!

what's in my bag

Isn't it somewhat of a natural tendency to be interested in what other women have in their bags?  A purse and its contents are such personal parts of women's lives.  You carry your bag every day, most everywhere you go.  So what's inside the bag must be pretty important... a bag of tricks, if you will.
I know I love these types of articles in magazines and on other blogs, so I thought I'd share with you!  It's pretty boring, honestly.  I try to keep my bag's contents pretty streamlined.  I hate clutter, so when receipts start to pile up in my wallet, it won't take but a few days until I can't take it anymore.
Ok, time to empty my purse!

I carry the taupe 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli.
I'm a bag person.  Everything has it's own little slot it it's own little bag.
Doesn't look like much, but don't let these bags be deceiving.  There are a lot of things in there!
Let's start with my makeup bag, which is the Jetsetter Small Dopp Kit from Henri Bendel.
Starting from the left, I've got blotting sheets, gum, and quite the array of.... tubes.  Chanel lipstick, YSL Rouge Volupte, Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, Dior gloss, NYX butter gloss, a Smashbox travel mascara, NYX yellow concealer, and a sample of Coco Mademoiselle for touch ups.  I've also got a crystal nail file and an EOS hand lotion pod.  On the top (from the left),  there's a few wet wipes I pocketed from Wild Wings (I hate for my hands to ever be sticky...HUGE pet peeve), an Origins facial moisturizer in case of any dry patches throughout the day, a fold-up hairbrush, and Evian facial mist for a quick refresher.

The Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in the shade 'Secrete' is always within reach.  I wore it on my wedding day and it's the perfect "pick me up" shade for my skin tone.
Can't forget the new shades.  They are Ray Ban 3025 019/W3. (I can't, for the life of me, find them on the RB website to link for you.)
Also from Henri Bendel (but no longer available online), is the bag I use to organize all of my receipts, coupons, checkbooks, business cards, reward cards... the list goes on.

This bag is fab because it has a divider in the middle of the main compartment, so it helps to keep things organized.  Also in the front is a smaller compartment.  Little compartments like that make me happy.
...and it's contents.  A ziploc baggy with leftover gift credits from wedding gifts.  Checkbooks, a business card case, a couple stacks of cards, a pen, bundle of receipts, and a stack of coupons.
See the two stacks of cards above (the orange Ulta card and the Belk card)?  One is for reward cards - anything from the little punchy cards you get at fro-yo places, to my grocery store club card, to my library card.  The other holds a few gift cards.  I keep these tidy and organized in my bag by securing them with small binder clips.

Below you can see my bundle of receipts.  I like to staple them together so that they stay in the same place.  Then, if I need to return something, I can easily rip out that particular receipt.  This makes the biggest difference.  I hate stray receipts that wander around in the bottom of my purse!
...and coupons.  I hold these together with a big paperclip for easy accessibility.
Since I carry all of those loose papers in the little Bendels bag, it allows my wallet to stay clean & organized.  I use the Tory Burch Continental Wallet and absolutely love it.  I don't like any cards to be in my wallet except my bank cards & my license...ok and my old college ID in case I get a chance to take advantage of that discount.  In my wallet, I always carry around a green scapular that I was given in fifth grade.

Ta-da! There you have it.
Happy Humpday.
