I realize I don't write as many personal things on this blog as I used to, but today I had an urge to start typing, so that's just what I'm doing. Don't know where exactly I'm going with this, but I do feel that with the added social media platforms, like Instagram in full force, Facebook, and now Snapchat, it's sort of hard to retain as much privacy as I used to. Maybe I'm phrasing that wrong. I used to share more personal things on this blog, but then when all this social media happened, I don't really have to and don't have a need to share "more" on here than I already am on Instagram, etc. I guess what I'm saying is that there just isn't as much to share that is "new" anymore! So I'm thinking about restructuring this a little, because I do miss life chats with y'all through comments and whatnot. I'm not carving this into wood or anything, but I'm going to try to bring back a little bit of an original vibe to Holy City Chic. Maybe more outfit selfies in the mirror like I used to (so uncomfortably) share, definitely more brain dumps when it comes to writing, and I don't know what else, but I want to bring back the fun to this blog & take away a little pressure of sharing on social media because sometimes I find myself not living as much in the moment because I need to snapchat it, or whatever.
So... life! I took last week off from blogging because sometimes you just need to step away from something that doesn't feel inspiring. That's what I've learned. If something ever feels forced, just walk away, people—no matter what it is. If it's something you're really passionate about, then you will want to come back with a renewed sense of energy, focus, and creativity.
Life has kind of been all over the place since we got back from our trip to the BVI. That was a month ago and I have to stop using that as an excuse for not feeling caught up, because we weren't gone that long, let's be real. But it's just that that trip started a series of events that was our April/May—the way it is every year... BUSY. Family reunions, baby showers, Mother's Day, golf tournaments, an annual getaway at Fripp Island, taking the boat out for the first few times of the season with friends, graduation parties, engagement parties, birthday parties (lots of parties!), work conferences and various work-related events... all so fun, but this just seems to be the time for it all to happen at once. Everything seems to be slowing down now, though, which is nice for my sanity and for my ever-growing to-do list. And I do realize that it's all only going to get more hectic and busy with age. Yeesh.
What have I been up to lately? A few girls nights...
I swear this is going to be my beauty routine all summer long, like it was in the photo above. Shower, run Moroccan Oil Hydrating Cream through hair. Put in bun, still wet. Apply Complexion Rescue over face (I'm shade 6). Add my favorite Nars blush. A little mascara (I used brown Lash Love by Mary Kay). Boom!
Another night with the ladies. We were all together for our friend's baby shower that happened earlier that day ...and we sure were missing that momma-to-be later on!
We went to Fripp Island for the Charities Golf Tournament, which Brandon has played in for the past eight years. More and more of our friends are participating every year, which makes it even more of a good time.
There may or may not have been a selfie stick involved with the photo below.
I got my first Lulie Wallace painting and I love it so much.
I've been staying busy on the real estate side of things. This is a view from a window in my office building. Charleston, you're just really pretty. Even on rainy days when the power is out, like it was when this picture was taken.
The coolest fitness tracker ever. I posted this on my instagram. It's Anne Klein. Comes with a gold watch band, too... so you can switch it out if you want to be all fancy.
Just so you Charleston ladies know. Valentino & Saint Laurent are at TJ Maxx in Mt. Pleasant. (I just found out you can now shop TJ online. Cool! I mean, uh oh.)
Open Door Shop is one of my absolute favorite gift boutiques. They just have pieces you don't see anywhere else. Marion & Leslie, the owners of the shop, sent me this lucite pineapple because they saw I was re-decorating my office. So sweet! They have started "The Pineapple Shop," which is kind of amazing. (Did you know pineapples are the symbol of southern hospitality?)
I needed something different done in our living room and had been eyeing those white cowhide rugs, but just didn't want to spend the money in case it wasn't my style or didn't end up looking like I had envisioned. I wanted to layer one on top of our big jute rug. Then I remembered I had this moroccan rug I got on Joss & Main, which I had just taken out of my office, so I used that to layer some textures. We needed more interest in the living room and this was the perfect addition. I just got handed down one of those beautiful, old sewing machine tables (more on that later) and I'm going to try my hand at sewing some white pillow covers to go with these green ones by Arianna Belle.
That's enough for today. Happy Tuesday!
