what i wore: effortless shirt

What came first, the chicken or the egg? Yeah, I guess no one really knows, but that's kind of the same way I feel about this shirt. I don't know whether wearing this relaxed, effortless shirt made me feel like going for a walk on the beach, or if the idea of walking on the beach made me reach for this shirt. Just can't remember which came first, but enjoying some time on the beach was the perfect end to a long day before grabbing a casual dinner with the husband. And this MICHAEL Michael Kors button down from Nordstrom was the perfect top to wear for the occasion.

The theme of the MICHAEL Michael Kors spring collection is "nouveau nautical" and this top totally fits their description of the season's effortless, seaside essentials. I'm a MK newbie, but I've got to say, the whole collection is pretty darn good. Isn't this bag so pretty?

a new lip favorite (glo-minerals suede matte collection)

Hello, newest makeup obsession. The gloMinerals Suede Matte Collection was just released this spring and I have my hands on some beautiful shades to share with you. In a nutshell, these lip products are just like the ones by Nars, which it seems like everyone (myself included) has raved about, but —dare I say—these might just be better because they are more moisturizing while being just as long lasting.

There are two different formulations that make up the Suede Matte Collection:
  • Suede Matte Stick: A slender stick, which offers a cream application that lasts for hours.
  • Suede Matte Crayon: A crayon-inspired pencil with a built in sharpener, which delivers precision and convenience in one.

Both formulas offer antioxidant protection and conditioning ingredients that include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Mango Seed Oil and Shea Butter. Who would have thought you could have those amazing, moisturizing ingredients, while still having a matte lip? Apparently, it's possible.

Also, the colors. They are amazing.

I have shades bombshell, monogram, and sorbet in the suede matte crayon, as well as shades bliss and pinup in the suede matte stick. I would love to try crush, pop, and memento, though!

Here they are swatched below:

If I had to pick one formula over the other, I think I prefer the crayon over the stick, just because I like the extra control... it's almost like a liner and lipstick in one, which is awesome when dealing with extra bright colors (like Sorbet, which happens to be my favorite). And what's even better than my liking them more than the Nars pencils? These cost $10 less!

This is not a sponsored post, nor does this post contain any affiliate links. I was sent these products, but not required to review. All opinions are my own.

a pillow makeover with arianna belle

For what seems like the longest time, I've been on a pillow hunt for our new-ish sofa. My first thought was to go white because I love a good classic, but then again, we do have shades of white all in our living room—walls, sofa, rug, chairs. Kind of wanted to add a punch of color, but which color?

I stumbled upon Arianna Belle, an online boutique owned by Arianna Vargas that specializes in bespoke luxury decorative pillows. All pillows are handmade in-house and are the source for many top designers. Ok, so I knew Arianna has amazing style and I was thrilled with her curated collection of fabrics. Her selection of pillows is awesome and there's certainly something for every taste, but my eyes kept going back to these green velvet pillows.

Here they are in the 24x24 size, paired with a couple random pillows I picked up at Homegoods.

Since Arianna Belle only sells the pillow covers, I ordered my inserts from a different company, but here's a pillow insert size guide that might be helpful if you have inserts laying around at home.

The quality of these covers blew me away. The fabric is luxurious and the stitching is impeccable. Definitely my favorite covers I've ever owned.

...and our sofa certainly is a lot happier! If you're on a pillow hunt too, you may love this coral with greek key border, this les touches black, the mirasol linen, this solid white with grosgrain ribbon border,  and if you're feeling a little funky, maybe the chiang mai aquamarine.

By the way, sale alert! Bloomingdale's started their friends & family sale today. Save 25% off with code FRIENDS. Oh, and remember all of those spring favorites I posted on Saturday? They are all from Bloomies and I am pretty darn sure that none of the brands I mentioned are excluded from the promotion! Happy shopping, friends.

spring style on the brain

Hello friends. Pardon the brief interruption on the blog this week. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've been at Charleston Fashion Week this week and I've gotta say, it's really taken it out of me! I am so not cut out for staying out late on weeknights anymore.

The weather in Charleston lately has been amazing. Between the extra Vitamin D soaking into my skin and in honor of the first day of spring yesterday, I've got warm weather majorly on my brain.

Here are some pretty things I'm eying.

Bar Styling With Open Door Shop (+ a discount code for YOU)

I recently met Leslie and Marion, the wonderful and talented ladies behind Open Door Shop, an online home decor boutique and bridal registry that is based out of Charleston. I got to peek around their showroom a little and see the items that are featured online in person. And let me tell you, all of it is so good, I couldn't help but pick out of few things for our bar. That's always a fun thing to spruce up, right?

How cute are these juice glasses? The white brim and hand blown glass gives them such personality. I think they would be great for sipping wine or for a fun cocktail.

Also came home with these cocktail stirrers. The wooden box brings in a nice contrast against the python tray and other feminine features we've got going on.

...and then there's this natural horn dish. Perfect for holding sliced lemons when making a drink or to use as a catchall anywhere, really.

I had these hemstitch cocktail napkins monogrammed with our initials. Nothing says southern quite like linen cocktail napkins! They also come in other colors—I love the coral ones, too, but white is a great classic.

Now the fun part. I've curated a collection of my favorite things on Open Door Shop ... and you can save 20% off any of these items until the end of the day on 3/22 with code HCC20

All of the new pieces I've featured today are in my curated collection, but I've also included plenty of other amazing things like the little gold spoon, this painting, and these coasters, which match the drink stirrers.  Don't forget to use code HCC20 to save 20% off!

what i wore: first time

Know how you go all winter wearing long pants and then it finally gets warm and you pull out your shorts for the first time of the year? It's kind of awkward looking—those legs that haven't seen sunlight in months. Almost like you forget what your legs even look like. That was my struggle this past weekend. But when it's 75 degrees, you put all thoughts aside, accept spring with open arms, and you rock.the.shorts. Here's how I did it.

Jacket: Old Navy (30% off! I'm wearing an XS)
Top: Current Elliott (I'm in size 2)
Sunglasses: Karen Walker
Shoes: J. Crew
Bag: Madewell
Watch: Citizen
Bracelets: Vahan
Earrings: Nordstrom (similar)
Gold ring: Julie Vos

current beauty favorites

First up... skincare.

I have to say, this is not the most cleansing cleanser (we will get to that later), so it took me a while to learn to love it. But now that I do, it's quickly jumped into my current rotation and is now one of my favorites. First thing you'll notice about this is, like the name says, it is milky and conditioning, so it feels comforting on the skin. Not stripping and drying in the least bit! Second, the smell—it's fantastic, sort of like grapefruit and very spa-like.

The active ingredients include Jojoba Oil to calm and soothe the skin, Shea Butter to moisturize and regenerate the skin, Safflower Oil to hydrate, Rose Hip Seed Oil to soothe with fatty acids, Grape Seed Extract, and finally, Hyaluronic Acid to support water retention by holding up to 1000 times its weight in water.

So when I said it isn't the most cleansing cleanser, I'll tell you what I meant. This isn't the best multi-purpose cleanser in that it doesn't remove makeup like others that go in and remove everything in one fell swoop. On the flip side, the great thing about this is that this is a very conditioning cleanser and does not dry out the skin at all. The key is to use it after makeup has already been removed with another product. How do I use it? I remove my makeup completely, then use this cleanser with my Clarisonic about three times a week. The other three nights, I use an exfoliating cleanser (that is another one of my favorites!). Every morning, I use this cleanser and really massage it into my face to wake up my skin and start the circulation. The scent helps wake me up and it cleanses my skin well (since it's clean from just sleeping through the night) while giving it hydration for the day. It's pretty awesome.

This is the best exfoliating cleanser I've ever used, but it's not to be used more than three times per week (This is what I use the three days I do not use the conditioning milk cleanser at night). I use it at night after removing makeup and thanks to the fact that it's packed with glycolic acid, it leaves my skin smoother than ever before. If I have a special occasion, I will break my own rules and use this in the morning, as well, to make sure my skin is super smooth.

I use this every morning after cleansing and toning my skin. It helps with fine lines, skin discoloration, and balancing the skin's hydration. And let me tell you... it's worth every penny. I've definitely noticed a difference in my skin since using this the past few months. You can also purchase the whole skinmedica kit, which includes this serum, the exfoliating cleanser, and the skin renewal cream here.

I talked about this product here and I'm glad to report that I absolutely love it. It's supposed to increase hydration and radiance. Yes and yes. You've got to check out the ingredients... it includes amazing things like gold and truffles. I mean come on. Well, it works.

Now for my makeup favorites...

Well, I've found it. My favorite drugstore concealer ever. It's full coverage, doesn't seem to crease, and is long lasting. I use it in shade light under my eyes and on any spots that need a little extra covering up.

If you read this post, then you shouldn't be surprised that this is one of my current favorites.

Same goes for this product. If you saw my review, you already know I love this. Happy to report that this has not changed. This is a strong statement, but I love it more than anything else in my makeup collection right now. It's a major staple. (I use shade #3, Buttercream.)

creative, talented charleston

I'm pretty much always awe struck by the amount of creative talent there is in Charleston. My mind, specifically, has been on the artists I admire in this city because I'm just craving some new art on our walls. Here are some of my favorite Charleston artists:
