what i wore: comfy christmas

Hi friends and Merry Christmas! I'm posted up at my parents house with Watson and the kitty boy... just waiting for other family to arrive and for Brandon to make his way up here later on today! It's a very special Christmas for us since it's the first one for our baby boy. We've had the best time trying to decide what to get him—although I know he will be more interested in the paper and ribbons than he will the actual presents!

I thought I was really going to be on top of things this Christmas because we got our tree up before Thanksgiving for the first time ever and I just had so much excitement going into the holiday season. Buuut, alas I was running around town last minute yesterday trying to scoop up some final bits and pieces! So for me, comfort has been key because I've had some long days on my feet hitting up my favorite shops.

I was really glad I snagged a couple things from Nordstrom that I'm wearing in today's post—they are all so comfy and cozy! I went online trying to order one specific thing (in this case, a Christmas gift for someone else) and I spotted a few things I just couldn't pass up. Surprise surprise! There are just too many good things this season. Like this Topshop Grunge Funnel Neck Sweater Dress. It's honestly the best ever and just $75. It's a dress, but I paired it with some basic black leggings because to me, it's more like a tunic length. Also, my shoes—they are Dr. Scholl's! They're called the Ashah Pointed Toe Flats and they come in a black patent and also a tan leather that I love. And oh, under $100!

So if you're running a little in the eleventh hour like I am, here's a gift guide you might like! If you've forgotten to pick up a little extra something for your mister, here are some awesome options that all ship free and will arrive before Christmas!

what i wore: velvet pants

What is it about the holiday season that makes me want to wear velvet everything? I laid my eyes on these velvet pants at Nordstrom when we were up in Charlotte the other weekend. There were so many good winter staples there, but I just couldn't walk away from these. I could wear them to a meeting, to church, to a party, or maybe even just on the couch because I'm telling you, they're soft. I love how Nordstrom carries a variety of reasonably priced brands to the nicest high end designers. Makes it easy to get inspiration from upscale brands while mixing high and low pieces. That's my favorite way to dress! I mixed these pants (Which, by the way, were just marked down 40% off! Hello!!!) with a sweater that is under $50.

:: OUTFIT DETAILS ::

Topshop Longline Slouch Coat (comes in black, green, and pink too!)
Topshop Blouson Sleeve Mock Neck Sweater (under $50!)
Ted Baker Katciat Velvet Tuxedo Trousers (currently 40% off!)
Schutz Enida Sandals (mine are red wine faux crocodile, these are similar)
Chanel Wallet on Chain Bag (in select stores, this bag and this one are similar for $29!)

Thank you to Nordstrom for partnering on this post.

found a favorite: baby monitor (+ giveaway!)

So here's the story. We would put Watson to bed and then rig the baby monitor screen in between the stove and the sink because it was our "sweet spot" for reception. Take that monitor into the living room with you and there was radio silence—literally. And I'm telling you, maybe it's our imagination, but with every room we would paint in the house, I swear the reception would get worse!! I'm not kidding, it's like each tiny layer of primer and paint would take away that much more of the monitor's ability to reach from Watson's room to where we hang out at night. Sheesh! At least we had that one spot in the kitchen and even though we couldn't really see anything on the screen from the living room, at least we had a high volume control so that we could hear noises!

That's why when I posted my baby registry guide, I didn't share a specific baby monitor because I really didn't have a recommendation. But by chance a couple days later, I heard from my friends at Levana and they asked if I would like to test out their new addition to the baby monitor family—the Willow™ 5” HD Touchscreen PTZ Video Baby Monitor

Um, YES.
^^ isn't that little Christmas tree so cute? you can plant it outside after the holiday season and it grows up to 15ft tall! and I had a question about my rings—they are Brook & York (here and here). Save 10% off with code holycitychic10.
So today I'm going to share what I think about the monitor and I'll also be sharing a giveaway so you can enter for a chance to win one! (Even if you don't have babies yet, trust me, you're going to want to enter and keep this thing on reserve. And I guess that just gave away the fact that I LOVE it.)

Here's the scoop...

First, it's touchscreen and the screen is nice and big at 5". It feels just a bit bigger than the large iphone. The camera pans all around the room and tilts—you can adjust both of those things from the handheld monitor. The high-definition picture quality on it is GREAT. I can actually see my baby's face! On our old one, all you could really see was a shadow. It's got a great long-lasting battery on it (promises 12 hours) and tons of neat features, like a temperature gauge, lullabies, a clock and two-way communication, too. I also love that the actual camera itself is wireless. We keep it next to Watson's crib on a table that is within arm's reach, so knowing there is no risk of strangulation is a nice relief for us. The reception reaches 500ft, which is a huuuuuge upgrade for us because we can go out in the yard or in the total opposite room of the house—it still works great.

Another huge plus? It comes with TWO cameras. So if you have two little ones, put one in each of their rooms and monitor them both in the split view mode on the monitor. (You can add two more making it a total of 4 cameras.) I love this feature!

So can you tell I really really love it? I need to go back and update my baby registry guide. There are a lot more fancy features on this, too, but those are my favorites. You can read more about the monitor here if you want to. And here's a cute video they did that you moms will appreciate!

It retails for $279 and is available for purchase here. I know that's pretty pricey, but I honestly can tell you it's worth it. We tried the cheaper route initially and it didn't work out so well. To know we've got a "close eye" on Watson while he sleeps has allowed us to worry less when he's in his crib and room all alone.

(Yes, that's baby drool on my shirt in case you're wondering! Watson has started giving us big wet kisses where he opens his mouth up real big and puts it over our noses. And drool just runs all down my face (and shirt apparently), but it's the sweetest thing in the world!)

Enter for your chance to WIN one of these monitors!

giveaway with blair ritchey

You may have noticed on instagram earlier this week that I'm hosting a giveaway with Blair Ritchey! Blair makes luxurious handbags, totes, and small leather goods that all have one thing in common—they're functional. I found Blair on instagram a while back when I spotted her with her adorable baby boy who is just a little bit older than Watson. And then I saw her Penn Carry-All and instantly fell in love. It looks like the perfect bag for someone who carries a lot of stuff and needs to keep it orderly—or to use as a diaper bag, which is the reason I was so attracted to it because it's beautiful and can also be carried as a backpack! (and then she released this grey suede one and I'm all heart eyes about it.)

Blair also makes these gorgeous PAK Mini bags, like mine pictured above. It's the perfect do-everything, go-anywhere kind of bag. I've used it religiously since she so kindly sent one to me. I keep some makeup in it, keep cards + my ID in it if I need to run in somewhere for an errand without carrying a handbag, and it's made of the most buttery, rich leather.

So I know you all want me to get to the good stuff... the giveaway. You can win a PAK Mini just like mine! Plus, win the pom pom too. These two pieces together retail for $174.

The giveaway ends TONIGHT at 11:59pm. If you've missed it on Instagram, hop over there now because that's where you enter. It's really easy to enter, too. All you have to do is follow Blair and me, then tag two friends in the comments. Easy peasy.

Christmas Cards with Minted

Our Christmas cards arrived! We chose this cardMinted did a great job as usual and I thought I'd share. We never did a birth announcement for Watson (#momfail), so I included that on the back. Really love the way they turned out! I showed a few extra details of why I like these cards (like the fact that I don't have to address them myself!) on my snapchat (meg.stokes) and on my instagram story. Minted is offering 15% off all holiday cards (ending today) with code SNOW15! Also, they are doing 12 days of gifts. Today is 20% off all personalized stationery and 15% off gifts. I think personalized stationery is one of the best gifts ever. Merry Christmas!

life lately

Backtracking just a little bit because there's some things to catch up on! Here's thanksgiving day with my loves.

I'm wearing the ALC Campbell Dress and Rag & Bone loafer mules. They are from last year and no longer available, but these are the current ones and I love them just as much! I get compliments on these every single time I wear them and I can't tell you how comfortable they are.

Did I mention my brother got engaged?!

You can't really tell in the photo, but she has a puppy in her arms! That was a surprise, too! Brandon and I helped pull it all together and picked up the puppy earlier that day. I can't tell you how much I was on cloud 9. Puppy breath galore!!

Starting December 1st, we've been picking a book out of this box to read to Watson at night. Well, we always read to him at night, but these are all Christmas themed books. My mom picked them all out and wrapped each one. Watson has been loving picking out a "present" every night!

Fun at the Clemson/USC game with my girls.

...and my guy!

Watson turned eight months old!

...and he met Santa yesterday in Charlotte. (You can see how well that went!) Brandon and I decided on a whim to spend the weekend there and it was a much needed blast with my boys. We shopped at the mall and Ikea, met Santa, watched our Clemson Tigers win the ACC Championship on TV while cozied up on the hotel sofa, and got Cheesecake Factory takeout. So fun!

HOME.

Check my instagram later today because I'm posting a great giveaway!! Here's a hint.

our family photos

Hi sweet friends! I'm taking a little breather this week as I spend some time with my family. My mom had surgery this week (this makes #4 in about two months, poor Momma!) and I've felt pretty behind from the Thanksgiving holiday, having company in town, going to Clemson last weekend for the game, and then some other exciting things—like my brother getting engaged on Sunday night!!

I wanted to pop in and share some photos from our mini session with Julie Livingston. We spent 15 minutes with her and I swear I can't even narrow down my favorites to just a handful. They are all so sweet of Watson!! Julie is an extremely talented photographer and has such a warm, kind nature. We had fun shooting these and so I thought I'd share!

My outfit details: Dress from Bashful Boutique (843-225-0301) & Caslon Addison Wedge Bootie (40% off!)
Watson: The Beaufort Bonnet Company Jack Keene Corduroy Jon Jon and I wish I could tell you where the shoes are from! They were a gift.
