I realize I don’t write as many personal things on this blog as I used to, but today I had an urge to start typing, so that’s just what I’m doing. Don’t know where exactly I’m going with this, but I do feel that with the added social media platforms, like Instagram in full force, Facebook, and now Snapchat, it’s sort of hard to retain as much privacy as I used to. Maybe I’m phrasing that wrong. I used to share more personal things on this blog, but then when all this social media happened, I don’t really have to and don’t have a need to share “more” on here than I already am on Instagram, etc. I guess what I’m saying is that there just isn’t as much to share that is “new” anymore! So I’m thinking about restructuring this a little, because I do miss life chats with y’all through comments and whatnot. I’m not carving this into wood or anything, but I’m going to try to bring back a little bit of an original vibe to Holy City Chic. Maybe more outfit selfies in the mirror like I used to (so uncomfortably) share, definitely more brain dumps when it comes to writing, and I don’t know what else, but I want to bring back the fun to this blog & take away a little pressure of sharing on social media because sometimes I find myself not living as much in the moment because I need to snapchat it, or whatever.

So… life! I took last week off from blogging because sometimes you just need to step away from something that doesn’t feel inspiring. That’s what I’ve learned. If something ever feels forced, just walk away, people—no matter what it is. If it’s something you’re really passionate about, then you will want to come back with a renewed sense of energy, focus, and creativity.

Life has kind of been all over the place since we got back from our trip to the BVI. That was a month ago and I have to stop using that as an excuse for not feeling caught up, because we weren’t gone that long, let’s be real. But it’s just that that trip started a series of events that was our April/May—the way it is every year… BUSY. Family reunions, baby showers, Mother’s Day, golf tournaments, an annual getaway at Fripp Island, taking the boat out for the first few times of the season with friends, graduation parties, engagement parties, birthday parties (lots of parties!), work conferences and various work-related events… all so fun, but this just seems to be the time for it all to happen at once. Everything seems to be slowing down now, though, which is nice for my sanity and for my ever-growing to-do list. And I do realize that it’s all only going to get more hectic and busy with age. Yeesh.

What have I been up to lately? A few girls nights…

I swear this is going to be my beauty routine all summer long, like it was in the photo above. Shower, run Moroccan Oil Hydrating Cream through hair. Put in bun, still wet. Apply Complexion Rescue over face (I’m shade 6). Add my favorite Nars blush. A little mascara (I used brown Lash Love by Mary Kay). Boom!

Another night with the ladies. We were all together for our friend’s baby shower that happened earlier that day …and we sure were missing that momma-to-be later on!

We went to Fripp Island for the Charities Golf Tournament, which Brandon has played in for the past eight years. More and more of our friends are participating every year, which makes it even more of a good time.

There may or may not have been a selfie stick involved with the photo below.

I got my first Lulie Wallace painting and I love it so much.

I’ve been staying busy on the real estate side of things. This is a view from a window in my office building. Charleston, you’re just really pretty. Even on rainy days when the power is out, like it was when this picture was taken.

The coolest fitness tracker ever. I posted this on my instagram. It’s Anne Klein. Comes with a gold watch band, too… so you can switch it out if you want to be all fancy.

Just so you Charleston ladies know. Valentino & Saint Laurent are at TJ Maxx in Mt. Pleasant. (I just found out you can now shop TJ online. Cool! I mean, uh oh.)

Open Door Shop is one of my absolute favorite gift boutiques. They just have pieces you don’t see anywhere else. Marion & Leslie, the owners of the shop, sent me this lucite pineapple because they saw I was re-decorating my office. So sweet! They have started “The Pineapple Shop,” which is kind of amazing. (Did you know pineapples are the symbol of southern hospitality?)

I needed something different done in our living room and had been eyeing those white cowhide rugs, but just didn’t want to spend the money in case it wasn’t my style or didn’t end up looking like I had envisioned. I wanted to layer one on top of our big jute rug. Then I remembered I had this moroccan rug I got on Joss & Main, which I had just taken out of my office, so I used that to layer some textures. We needed more interest in the living room and this was the perfect addition. I just got handed down one of those beautiful, old sewing machine tables (more on that later) and I’m going to try my hand at sewing some white pillow covers to go with these green ones by Arianna Belle.

That’s enough for today. Happy Tuesday!

I'm with you…sometimes I need to step away from the blog too and you can totally feel like you're just repeating your Instagram or whatever. Looking forward to more outfit posts from you {always a fan!} Enjoy your summer! xo

  2. I always love Life Lately posts and I can relate we share so much on social media it's hard to be original on the blog. But that is what I love about blogs a sneak peek into someone else's live. The rug looks amazing and I love Open Door shop, one of my favorite entertaining shops!

    • June 2, 2015 / 1:32 pm

You are so right… that sneak peek is what keeps me going back to blogs!

…and thanks! I was about to sell the rug on Craigslist or somewhere, so I'm glad I kept it around.

Love these post girl!! And what you can sew?!?!

    • June 2, 2015 / 1:32 pm

Haha… no, not yet! I've got to find some Youtube videos or something to learn. I figured pillows would be a pretty easy place to start. πŸ™‚

LOVE this post. Totally agree about how social media has changed things – but the personal posts are my favorites to read on blogs!! I totally agree about vacation – it has taken soooo long to get caught up (and I'm still working on it…yikes). Are you loving the fitness tracker? I have a fitbit, but ever since you posted this photo on IG, I've been wanting this chic watch!!!

Yes, I love this tracker!! The gold band the watch snaps into is so pretty, too! I have a fitbit zip and haven't worn it at all since I got this one.

I love seeing that youre going to try to get back to the original vibe of Holy City Chic… Loved your early days and mirror selfies! πŸ™‚

  6. June 2, 2015 / 1:17 pm

would love to see more of the original blog style posts (mirror selfies included!) – I just jumped on snapchat and honestly, information overload. I can hardly keep up anymore… also, the moroccan rug looks great! if you ever do decide you NEED a cowhide, I can't sing the praises of sunland home decor enough. I bought a white/beige brindle for our kitchen a few months ago and it's honestly the most low maintenance rug in our house. I'm obsessed! My husband was hesistant at first (I was able to sell him only because of how inexpensive it was) but he has really come around thanks to the number of compliments it has garnered from his friends when they come over. this is the listing I purchased from but they have so many different kinds! http://www.sunlandhomedecor.com/322110-p-lghides.html

haha, Snapchat is information overloadβ€”I agree. Thank you for the cowhide rug suggestion! I am going to bookmark that. πŸ™‚

I love life posts! We're in the midst of a move and I feel that we will never get caught up, so completely feel ya. Um amazing find on the AK fitness tracker, by far my favorite I've seen!!

    • June 2, 2015 / 1:36 pm

Ah, good luck with the move! Moving definitely takes it out of you. And yes, it's the best I've seen, too! Finally a pretty one.

  8. June 2, 2015 / 2:57 pm

Great post and I can totally relate. I am going to take a little time off next week and you just made me feel way less guilty about it! Thanks!

  9. June 2, 2015 / 3:31 pm

I need to check out that fitness tracker! Much more appealing to the eye than others I've seen!

  10. June 2, 2015 / 4:07 pm

I loved this post! Also, please keep up the beauty posts!

  11. June 2, 2015 / 4:28 pm

I love your white coverup from the golf tournament! Is it a recent buy? Looking forward to the life posts, it's always a good way to get to know bloggers. Have a great rest of the week!

  12. June 2, 2015 / 6:16 pm

Hi! I'm not a blogger and I've never commented on a blog post before, but I've been following yours for quite some time and have always really enjoyed what you share. You seem very genuine and relatable in your posts and I find that we have similar lifestyles (and likes!) despite the fact that I live in Manhattan. Instagram is a great platform for sharing life tidbits too (and my personal favorite one to use) but it's great to know you'll be adding back some more life sharing posts like these. πŸ™‚

    • June 2, 2015 / 6:30 pm

Hi Cara! Thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm jealous you live in Manhattan because I've always wanted to (maybe in another life!). Thank you again for your comment! Made my day to know you enjoy this blog.

  13. June 2, 2015 / 7:23 pm

Long time reader and these posts are always my favorite. Glad to see you're bringing them back!

  14. June 3, 2015 / 9:37 pm

I am so glad I found your cute blog!!! I 1000% agree about taking a break from something you stop being passionate about. I love blogging but sometimes I just feel like it's a job/chore instead of enjoying it and documenting my life. I always try to remember that If I don't enjoy it, I need to take a little break and remember why I started a blog in the first place. I love how real this post is! just a normal girl doing normal stuff πŸ™‚ keep up the blogging! I love what I see so far!

So enjoy your blog! Glad you keep writing and sharing!

Love this post. You are so likable but to be honest, I think people get really tired of bloggers writing about all the things people should buy/things they've recently bought. That seems to be the current trend, and while I can see the appeal with all the free stuff and they RStyle links, it's honestly just boring. I've been reading blogs a long time and I think the formula for a successful blog is honesty + real life + pretty things. Your blog initially intrigued me because you're beautiful, have great taste, you obviously live an affluent life which, frankly, appeals to people, and yet you just wrote about your every day life. I think that's what made you so popular. I hope you'll keep at the "realness" and do away with the "you should buy this" posts littered with affiliate links that bloggers love these days. Just being honest πŸ™‚ I'll be here reading!
