I wash my face with either the Beautycounter Nourishing Cream Cleanser or the Beautycounter Nourishing Exfoliating Cleanser if my skin looks like it could use some exfoliation. They both have the same formula, but the exfoliating one has tiny jojoba beads, which help to slough off dead skin cells.
I’ve used both of these without pause for almost three years. They are gentle, effective, and safe. I love the way these cleansers make my skin feel—soft and hydrated, but still very clean. The scent is super fresh, but without the dangerous synthetic fragrance that is often found in other cleansers. Oh, and a little goes a long way!
Repair and Protect:
Serums. I use two—one layered right on top of the other.
First, the Glo Skin Beauty Daily Power C+ Serum. It has 20% vitamin C—that’s why I chose it. (That’s a very high percentage, which is a really good thing!) It’s an antioxidant that will protect your skin from environment stressors that lead to premature aging. It will also brighten, repair, and strengthen the skin! I noticed a much brighter and glowy complexion when I started using this consistently. Vitamin C is also known to make your sunscreen way more effective.
The second serum I apply is the Glo Skin Beauty Daily Hydration+ and trust me, your skin will thank you from the very moment you put it on. It’s totally weightless, but it provides a huge punch of hydration that will make your skin look smoother and promotes wound healing, if you have any blemishes, etc. The secret weapon in this serum is Hyaluronic Acid, which will keep your skin from experiencing water loss (AKA: dehyration… AKA: aging). It layers perfectly over the Vitamin C serum.
I know these are both on the pricey end, but they will last you. You can actually buy both of them together in this kit if you want to try them both out. (The kit is actually a FABULOUS deal because you’re getting 1oz total for just $50.)
I also know the thought of putting two serums on might seem a little excessive to some, but they were designed to complement each other. They are both totally weightless, so don’t worry about them sitting funny under your makeup. They will only make your makeup go on that much more flawlessly. These two serums have been game changers in my skin!
SPF + Hydration:
I am someone who has never ever worn SPF daily until recently. I always found a reason to avoid it. I’d think, “Sunscreen makes my face look chalky!” or “It makes my makeup melt off.” or “Nope, SPF will probably clog my pores!” You name the excuse, I probably used it to talk myself out of wearing daily SPF. I also thought that I couldn’t wear a moisturizer and then put SPF on top because that would just be way too much product layered on my skin. So, given the choice of either SPF or a moisturizer, a good moisturizer was just more important to me. (I know, I know.)
But then came a day when I decided that needed to change because protecting my skin from sun damage was the only way I’d be able to successfully slow the signs of aging. I want to avoid fine lines, sun spots, and wrinkles for as long as I can. So, the search for a great SPF began.
Backing up just a bit… I had been using Beautycounter moisturizers (seriously, the Nourishing AM and PM hydrators are the BOMB.), but I really wanted to find a moisturizer that has SPF in it as well. Jordan Harper kept talking about the Elta MD Clear sunscreen, which is a sunscreen/moisturizer combo, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. And y’all, it’s good. Like, really good.
I have never trusted products that claim to be a sunscreen and a moisturizer in one, but this one accomplished the task like a boss. It doesn’t feel like sunscreen at all! The reason it works so well? It has Hyaluronic Acid in it. (Yep, that word again… it keeps your skin from losing hydration.) Not to mention, this product is also very high in Zinc Oxide, which is the best sun protection ingredient for people with hyperpigmentation. This sunscreen also will help control oil production in your skin and it calms any inflammation. It’s basically a dream. It also comes in a TINTED version, which is my preference. The coverage is very sheer, so if your skin tone is similar to mine, I think you’ll love it! It blends seamlessly and while it doesn’t provide hardly any true coverage, it does makes my skin glow.
Eyes + Lips:
Don’t forget the delicate eye area! The Beautycounter Rejuvenating Eye Cream has been my go-to for years now. It has jambu extract and wild algae to protect, condition, and smooth the eye area. It also contains caffeine to reduce puffiness and perk up that tired under eye area.
Every morning, I also put on a little swipe of the Beautycounter Lip Conditioner. It has avocado oil, shea butter, meadowfoam seed oil, and jojoba oil. Some days I wear only this, but if I choose to wear lipstick, this makes the perfect base.
N I G H T
I cleanse twice in a row with the Beautycounter Nourishing Cream Cleanser—once to remove makeup and then once to cleanse my skin.
Next, I try to remember to use the Bioderma Micellar Water with a cotton pad all over my face to remove any last traces of makeup and to condition my skin. Not only is it a miracle worker at gently removing makeup, but it also has something called “Fatty Acid Esters” in it, which naturally rebuild the outer layer of the skin.
Then I apply the Glo Skin Beauty Triple Action Serum. I first learned about this serum from my esthetician that I sometimes see for facials. She said it’s a powerhouse for people that have pigmentation and texture issues…. and it really is. It contains Retinol, Hydroquinone, and Glycolic Acid. I really needed something to boost brighten and smooth my skin—and this serum has done just that.
After that, I put about 5 drops of the Beautycounter Brightening Facial Oil into the palm of my left hand, lightly rub my right fingers into it, then press the product into my skin. This stuff is like botox in a bottle! It’s the perfect finishing product to lock in all the goodness you’ve just applied into your skin.
Eyes + Lips:
Lastly, my eyes and lips. This part is exactly like my morning routine with only one slight difference. I use the Beautycounter Rejuvenating Eye Cream and then follow up with the Beautycounter Lip Conditioner. It comes in two “flavors.” I use peppermint for day and love the Calendula one for night because it contains calming chamomile. I mean, I really lather this on.
So there ya have it! My skincare routine. It’s gentle, yet effective on my hyperpigmented, slightly combination skin type. Since starting to use all of these products in conjunction about 2-3 months ago, I’ve really noticed a difference. The texture of my skin and my pore size have both improved. It’s also brighter! I’ve still got a little ways to go to say goodbye to all of the melasma I developed in my pregnancies, but I’m hoping a few peels and facials will help knock the rest of that out completely. As always, I’ll keep you updated on what works!
